Officially Missing You

(Above photo: the boyfriend during our 3 year anniversary last year)

I’ve surpassed the two week mark and I’m still in disbelief that Argentina is now my home. I say this now, but I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this type of independence where I don’t have a curfew and I can get whatever groceries I want (although my mum did tell me to go to sleep at 3am one evening, bless her ❤️) . I’ve also managed to get through my first day of university/college (it was only orientation, but nevertheless it was still a challenge trying to recall on the past 2 years of Spanish I learnt at UTS – my university back in Sydney) and I’ve been blessed with such great coordinators/supervisors who are so welcoming and hospitable, and a pretty cool bunch of other international students. And to be honest, they’ve been a lot more helpful than my tutors/coordinators back at UTS, especially coming from my mate’s experiences with having to deal with insurance and reporting stolen valuables. But that’s not what this post is about.

As much as I love it here, nothing beats home. And if there’s one thing that I miss most, aside from my loved ones of course, it’s having easy access and being able to have great, authentic Asian food. Yes, the chorizo and asado has been great, but I can’t help but miss being able to easily satisfy my Japanese and Thai cravings. There is still so much of South America to explore, and I’m sure there’s bound to be a nice hidden gem that’s waiting to be found, but from my two experiences of Thai and Chinese food here so far, it’s just not the same. My roommate had found a Thai restaurant the other night that had a 4+ star rating and the food looked promising based on their photos, so we decided to give it a try… but then our waiter tells us that their head chef is Argentinian and that we couldn’t change the meats of our penang and pad see ew from pork to chicken and beef (because hello, that’s the only way to eat them! lol). And after our first bites, right off the bat we could tell something was off with the flavours; not to say that the food itself was bad because we still thoroughly enjoyed our meals and their servings. Something was just missing from the flavours, and we weren’t used to having their type of pork with these meals.

I’m not giving up though! I still have high hopes that I will find an Asian restaurant that will be able to fully satisfy my cravings. For anyone who has been to Buenos Aires, or any other parts of South America and has found great Asian restaurants, I would love to know the names of those places for me to try. ¡Muchas gracias de antemano!

Hasta luego, ¡besos y abrazos!

Love, Marie ♡

  1. Lol, not bae, but Asian food! Hahaha
I know the feels tho, when we were in Europe for 5 or so weeks, we craved Asian so much! We found a Chinese place in Venice and the servings were so tiny but still the same price as it is in Oz! Ridonk, but I enjoyed the fix nonetheless!
Good luck and looking forward to your future blogs. 🙂

Ps. Thanks for reading mine. 😉 Who else from Argentina would be reading my nonsense. Lol!
